TSSG is delighted to welcome Professor Thomas Magedanz from the Fraunhofer Instiut, Germany this week, who is currently delivering a course module for the Telecoms Graduate Initiative (TGI). The Telecommunications Graduate Initiative has been undertaken by a number of leading Irish institutions, including Waterford Institute of Technology, in order to enhance the experience of students studying for PhD’s in topics related to Telecommunications. It provides a range of purpose-built educational modules in important topics in telecommunications as well as generic skills training.
Professor Magedanz is delivering the ‘Communication Service delivery Frameworks’ module, which covers the software frameworks, architectures and tools used to model, design, implement and deploy managed communications services. Specifically this includes IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), SIP Servlets, Web Services, and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) based SDPs and their related Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
Prof. Magedanz is a university lecturer (TU Berlin) and researcher with extensive experience and expertise in both computer science and telecommunications. He also leads the Next Generation Network Infrastructures (NGNI) Competence Center at Fraunhofer Institute FOKUS,. which provides testbeds and tools in the context of Next Generation Networks and Open Converged Service Delivery Environments. Prof. Magedanz has also been involved in several international strategic studies and research projects related to Intelligent Networks, Telecommunications Management Systems, Personal/Mobile Communications, TINA/Next Generation IN, and Mobile Agents / mobile Middleware within Deutsche Telekom AG, EURESCOM and the European RACE / ACTS / IST research programmes.
