The Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG) recently presented a paper at the European System, Software & Service Process Improvement & Innovation (EuroSPI² 2012). Phelim Dowling, a TSSG Software Test Engineer presented a paper titled ‘Successfully Transitioning a Research Project to a Commercial Spin-out using an Agile Software Process’.
This 2 day event held in Vienna, Austria from the 25th to the 27th June, attracted academics, researchers and industry The conference presented and discussed results from systems, software and services process improvement and innovation (SPI) projects, focusing on the gained benefits and the criteria for success.
The paper presented by TSSG’s Phelim Dowling, titled “Successfully Transitioning a Research Project to a Commercial Spin-out using an Agile Software Process’ examined the successful transition of a research project to a fully-fledged commercial entity with an emphasis on the software process and quality methodologies used. Phelim Dowling is part of TSSGs Experimental Facilities Management (EFM) Group, managed by Catherine Kehoe. The Experimental Facilities Management Group is a cross organisational support service which covers requirements for Test, Engineering, V&V and Human-Service Interactions including Test bed setup, configuration & operation (including IMS), Continuous Integration, Build processes, Tools and Virtual Infrastructures., Methodologies & QA Processes, Metrics, Certification & Standards Conformance, Service Prototyping and Demonstrators and User Experience Analysis.
This year’s event was the 19th of a series of conferences to which international researchers and professionals contribute their lessons learned and share their knowledge as they work towards the next higher level of software management professionalism.
