Dr Bilal Momani, Senior Software Researcher at Waterford Institute of Technology’s Telecommunication Software and Systems Group (TSSG) attended the 5G Infrastructure Public Private Partnership / Awareness Meeting, which was held in Brussels during May this year.
The meeting was held to highlight, EU funded projects targeting Industry and other partners in a Public-Private Partnership within the Horizon 2020. Dr Momani, attended the meeting and presented a new approach to support the 5G technology namely ”Edge-as-a-Service” (EaaS) that targets the H2020 projects.
Dr Momani’s main objective was to show that TSSG can participate in the development of new approaches for Virtual Networking for Edge-as-a-Service and Software Defined Networks platforms and components required for public safety networks, machine type communications and interworking between 5G technologies.
TSSG can contribute in building 5G demonstrators and prototypes, the design and deployment of new flexible and reconfigurable protocols and architectures for 5G networks and the implementation of an evaluation framework to carry out performance testing of 5G technologies. There were four strands presented: Radio Network Architecture and Technologies, Convergence beyond last mile, Network Management and Network Virtualization and Software Networks. Dr Momani, presented on Software Networks, both SME’s and Research Institute’s showed interest in TSSG’s Proposal for Software Networks.
