JOS_image_web_229_300Tuesday, 30th September: “With the announcement of Horizon 2020 last year, Europe has provided a pot of money that’s available to SMEs, as well as multinationals, to take their business to the next level and this presents an amazing opportunity for SMEs, the lifeblood of the Irish economy”, according to Dr James O’Sullivan, Technology Transfer Manager at Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT).

“The trick now is how do we draw down that money and put it to good use. We are fortunate to have that expertise in the South East as WIT has been working with companies, leveraging research funding from Irish and European sources very successfully for over the last ten years and most importantly, translating that funding into real successes.”

Next Friday, as part of ‘European SME Week’ which is organised by Waterford Chamber and our local Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), two members of WIT staff, Dr O’Sullivan and Kevin Doolin from TSSG, will host FREE workshops aimed at local business and potential entrepreneurs.

James will be speaking about “Working with the Technology Transfer Office in WIT” as well as how to engage with Academic Institutes to take your business to the next level; understanding Intellectual Property (IP) and opportunities for SMEs and all size organisations in Horizon 2020.

Kevin will be discussing the “SME Instrument in Horizon 2020” along with an overview of the technical areas of expertise of TSSG; engaging in the EU; new opportunities for ICT in H2020; the SME Instrument as well as providing advice on how to engage with TSSG.

Both sessions will be followed by a Q & A with workshop attendees.

There are a total of five workshops in Treacy’s Hotel on the Quay, Waterford as part of ‘European SME Week’ and a full schedule is available at http://www.waterfordchamber.com.
