This event was hosted by the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union and its aim was to highlight the need for Europe’s transportation system to become carbon neutral in order to reduce pollution and increase the quality of life of its citizens. It also highlighted the need for autonomous vehicles in order to reduce road traffic fatalities to near zero.
The keynote speech was given by Detlef Stolten of the Institute of Energy and Climate Research, on future energy mix and mobility. He described how the fluctuations in demand for electricity can be evened by producing hydrogen during times of low demand and using the hydrogen to produce electricity when demand is high. In addition, Philippe Gourgeon, Collaborative Project Director, Comfort and Driving, Valeo gave a presentation on Human Machine Interface and user perspective he described the use of assist technologies to increase the User Experience for an elderly driver. One such technology is the use of an Xtra Vue See-through which takes a picture from a camera at the front of a bus and displays it on a screen in the car behind.
