Position Details:

TSSG is looking to hire an experienced Business Development Engineer (BDE) for an industry facing role. This is a business development opportunity that places the BDE at the heart of world class research, development and innovation (RD&I) opportunities.

TSSG is an internationally renowned software research institute and internationally recognised centre of excellence for ICT research and innovation which forms part of the Waterford Institute of Technology.  The Mobile Services Technology Gateway (http://mstg.tssg.org/) is the industry interface of TSSG and is part of the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway Network. The BDE role is to assist in promoting the Gateways core technology offer to an identified Irish industry base. The goal of the Gateway is to deliver near to market technology solutions to Irish based industries assisting them to create new products, processes or services.

This is a critical role which will involve interacting with both current and prospective clients to secure new opportunities in the RD&I domain.

Applicants must have a technical background in an ICT/Engineering discipline and have worked in a client facing business development role previously.

Applicants must possess the following skills and experience:

  • Possess strong business development skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the proven ability to effectively negotiate and influence a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of managing the client interface
  • Ability to translate non-technical requirements into a technical format and vice versa
  • Highly proficient proposal writer
  • Excellent technical background with a comprehensive understanding and experience of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: Product Development, UI/UX, Mobile Technology, Network Communications, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Programmable Autonomous Systems

Responsibilities will include:

  • Proactively generate new contacts, leads and opportunities in line with the strategic direction and thematic research areas of the organisation
  • Promote TSSG at a national level through attending industry events and subsequently document outcome and planned actions
  • Capture client/prospective client requirements
  • Maintain the CRM database, populating with new leads, opportunities and status updates
  • Keep up to date on market trends and conditions
  • Frequent interaction with all Research Units
  • Promptly communicate results of customer communications to the relevant parties in TSSG
  • Participate in the generation of proposals with the relevant Research Units and Industry partners
  • Liaise closely with the Marketing department, with particular attention to assisting with content for marketing collateral, website updates, case studies, testimonials, etc.
  • Build long-term trusting relationships with clients
  • Competently present TSSG to potential clients and at industry events.
  • Liaise where relevant with organisations such as Enterprise Ireland and business networks
  • Protect confidential information
  • Carry out other such duties as determined and directed by the Director(s) of TSSG that contribute to the achievement of the strategic initiatives of the organisation.

The successful candidate will report to the Technology Gateway Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Academic Qualifications

Essential:

  • BSc. in ICT/Engineering Discipline (or equivalent)

Desirable:

  • MSc. or post grad in business/management related discipline

Experience

Essential:

  • 5 years ICT/Engineering experience and 2 years business development
  • Capacity to be proactive and innovative in resource generation and sourcing all available funding

Specific knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: Product Development, UI/UX, Mobile Technology, Network Communications, Virtual Reality/Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Internet of Things, Programmable Autonomous Systems
  • Excellent technical background with a comprehensive understanding and experience of the SDLC
  • Ability to translate non-technical requirements into a technical format and vice versa
  • Skills in innovation, entrepreneurship, and creative problem solving.
  • Demonstrable capability to work with cross-functional teams
