Dr. Sasitharan Balasubramaniam, Director of Research at the TSSG, recently visited the Australian National University to give a seminar talk. The seminar was part of his role as the IEEE Nanotechnology Council Distinguished Lecturer, and was given at the Research School of Physics and Engineering, where he was hosted by Dr. Ziyuan Li. The title of the talk was “Wireless Optogenetic Nanonetworks for Brain Stimulation”, where the talk touched on future development of miniature networks of devices that can be implanted into the brain to stimulate neurons. This in turn could lead to new forms of brain stimulation application for Brain-Machine Interface such as neuroprosthetics as well as targeted neuroplasticity training. As part of the visit, Sasi also visited the different laboratories within the department to see various equipment that are used to fabricate nanoscale photonic and energy harvesting devices. The aim of the visit is to also develop a possible collaboration link between ANU and TSSG in the area of Smart Agriculture and Future Health.
