TSSG’s Technology Gateway featured in THEA’s “Full STEAM ahead” supplement included in the Irish Independent this week, featured articles on technology across the Institute of Technology sector
Published on Thursday November 8th, the ‘Full STEAM ahead’ supplement in the Irish Independent covers the wide range of developments and boundary-pushing research conducted by the Institute of Technology sector in Ireland.
WIT is the only Institute of Technology in Ireland to host three Technology Gateways and two of these gateways (SEAM and TSSG Technology Gateway) have had their cutting-edge research identified and showcased for this special feature.
Focussing on the advanced manufacturing capabilities offered to industry by the South East Applied Materials (SEAM) research centre, the article addresses disruptive innovation in the additive manufacturing space, with very fitting examples from their 3D printing capacity, and how this is being used in industry.
Moving to the Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (TSSG), the spotlight turns to the centre’s engagement, through their Technology Gateway, with Irish company Fusion Payments Ltd. TSSG have been developing ‘Pay with Fusion’ – a single mobile app that allows customers to manage all aspects of their finances, from all their providers, in one place.
The key theme across both of the articles is the far-reaching and engaged research happening within WIT that pursues disruptive innovation as a way of providing for tomorrow’s needs.
Denise Manton, TSSG Technology Gateway spoke of Industry Engagement undertaken at TSSG by saying ‘From the startup to the multinational to the established company that hasn’t traditionally engaged in R&D – TSSG is taking a dynamic design led approach to help companies spearhead their ICT R&D initiatives across the product lifecycle, from exploration and concept to development and launch’.
She went on to say, ‘We are seeing increased interest in areas such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality and Pervasive Sensing with a strong emphasis on state of the art architectural design and user experience (UX). The adoption rate of these technologies in sectors such as Agritech, HealthTech, FinTech and Intelligent Transport Systems is most definitely on the rise in Ireland and that is evident through our current industry engagements as we continue to push the boundaries in collaboration with our industry partners’.
‘Fusion Payments is one such company who accessed TSSG Technology Gateway. The future is bright for Irish industry as technology gateways propel their R&D footprint & outputs to achieve significant commercial value for organisations’.
