Postdoctoral Researcher (025065)

The Postdoctoral Researcher will be a member of the TRACKSTAR and CITIES2030 teams based in TSSG. Their role as a member of the proposal writing team, will allow them to expand on TRACKSTAR,  CITIES2030 and other TSSG research projects to identify and engage with other research and funding opportunities.  As part of the role, there will be the project management of TRACKSTAR and CITIES2030, here they will assist in the timely output of deliverables as per the Work Packages (WP) defined in detail in the projects’ Description of Work (DoW). The Post Doc, as part of his/her duties, will also be responsible for researching, publishing white papers, and publishing papers in academic journals and presenting at international conferences specific to the TRACKSTAR and/or CITIES2030 projects and, in general, related to policy dialogues in EU – US priority policy areas, entrepreneurial regions, ecosystems of open innovation, regional innovation systems and regional development, urban and/or rural development, food supply chains, citizen engagement and the development of stakeholder coalitions.

The Postdoctoral Researcher will be a key member of the team and will, therefore, be required to work with and support all TRACKSTAR and CITIES2030 consortium partners in the timely delivery of the project’s deliverables. The Postdoctoral Researcher, as part of their duties, will also perform relevant administrative tasks to support the effective and efficient management and control of the projects. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also be required to provide academic guidance to junior researchers involved in the projects and to perform basic research in line with the objectives and work plan of funded research projects, under direction from the projects’ Principal Investigator(s).

Additional responsibilities include:

• Perform basic and applied research in line with the objectives and work plan of funded research projects, under direction from the project Principal Investigator(s).
• Contribute to the design and implementation of research prototypes and demonstrators.
• Disseminate research results via publications in scientific conferences and journals.
• Participate in the supervisory teams of postgraduate research students.
• Work with the project Principal Investigator(s) and the WIT Technology Transfer Office to protect and exploit developed intellectual property.
• Contribute to the development of research funding proposals.
• Contribute to internal TSSG research dissemination, knowledge sharing and training activities.
• Perform other tasks as set by the TSSG Research Unit Manager or nominee in order to progress the development of the unit.

Candidate requirements: Applicants applying for the position of either TRACKSTAR and CITIES2030 Postdoctoral Researcher need to have/display:

• A PhD (or near to submission PhD) in the application of technologies into business, policy, economic or regional development.  Experience in quantitative and qualitative methodologies will be a distinct advantage.
• At least three years’ experience as a Post Doc or working as a researcher on EU funded projects.
• An understanding of the EU funding landscape.
• A positive track record of writing capabilities (reports) and publishing papers in good quality academic journals.
• A positive track record in presenting his/her research at relevant internationally recognised research conferences.
• A proven track record of working with and guiding junior researchers.
• A personably interactive style of working with people, especially in relation to setting up and running Working Groups.
• An ability to work on his/her own initiative.
• A commitment to “getting the job done” on time and to the highest quality standards.

Reporting structure:

The Postdoctoral Researcher will report to the Research Unit Manager and to the TRACKSATR and CITIES2030 Coordinators for the duration of his/her contract with the project.
