Candidates are invited to prepare joint (48 Month) PhD scholarship applications for the Irish Research Council Enterprise Partnership Scheme (http://research.ie/funding/eps-postgrad/?f=postgraduate) in collaboration with the Department of Computing and Mathematics / Telecommunications Software & Systems Group at the Waterford Institute of Technology, Waterford, Ireland.

Selected candidates will work with PhD supervisors and Enterprise partners (for example, Nokia, Ericsson, Dell, Intel, Cisco, Huawei ) to prepare a joint application towards securing the IRC PhD scholarship.

Areas of interest to Enterprise Partners include the following, but not limited to:

  • Artificial Intelligence approaches for management of virtual network resources.
  • Analytics for Industry 4.0
  • Data driven Serveless mesh
  • Fog and edge based distributed analytics.

 

Candidate Profile

The candidate should hold a good (first-class honours preferred) primary degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a cognate discipline. He/she should have strong analytical skills. Excellent inter-personal and communications skills are also required.

 

Stipend

The candidate will receive a non-taxable stipend of €16,000 per annum for a period of 4 years for Structured PhD. Tuition fees will be paid separately. Research expenses of up to €2250 per annum is also provided. The scholarships are open to candidates of all nationalities. IRC Enterprise Partnership Scheme Procedure

Candidates will be informed of their acceptance to prepare applications to the IRC scheme by 30th August. IRC scheme applications are due on the 17th September 2019. Applications will be prepared by the candidates in collaboration with the PhD supervisor and the selected enterprise partner. Outcome of the scheme will be known mid December with a start date of 1st April 2020.
